Katalin Karikó, research professor at the University of Szeged, has been appointed as a university professor. The decision was published in the latest issue of the Hungarian Official Journal Publisher (Magyar Közlöny).
By a decision published in the Hungarian Official Journal Publisher (Magyar Közlöny) on 31 May 2024, the President of the Republic of Hungary, upon the unanimous vote of the Senate of the University of Szeged, appointed Katalin Karikó, Research Professor of the Centre of Excellence for Interdisciplinary Research, Development and Innovation of the University of Szeged, as a university professor, nominatied by the Minister of Culture and Innovation. Hence the appointment, Katalin Karikó – in addition to her research at the institution – will continue her work as a university professor at the Faculty of Science and Informatics of the University of Szeged.
Nobel Prize winner Katalin Karikó has been a research professor at the University of Szeged since 2021. The world-renowned mRNA researcher is an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania, she has been working for 24 years. She co-founded and was CEO of RNARx from 2006 to 2013. She was Senior Vice President at BioNTech in Germany for 9 years. She received her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Szeged in 1982.
