Orientation Week for the Newly Admitted Erasmus Students

138 international students started their studies in the spring semester of the 2019/2020 academic year. 131 students arrived to the SZTE under the Erasmus+ program and 7 students under the Makovecz program. The integration of the students who hold a scholarship is assisted by the SZTE International Mobility Office of the Directorate for International and Public Relations between the 3rd and the 5th of February, 2020.

In the spring semester, 138 foreign students arrived to the University of Szeged under the Erasmus+ and Makovecz programs. Under the Erasmus+ program, 131 students arrived from 18 countries, 65 cities and 77 universities. These students will be studying at 11 faculties of the University of Szeged. The Majority of the students arrived to the SZTE from Spain. However, many students from Turkey and Italy also chose the University of Szeged as their study destination. Among the most popular faculties is the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences where 29 students will be carrying out their studies, the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences where 24 students will begin their studies and the Faculty of Medicine, where 19 international students will begin their studies.

Thanks to the Makovecz program, 7 students from Serbia arrived to SZTE to start their studies and exchange programs in February at the Juhász Gyula Faculty of Education. The Makovecz Student Scholarship Programme offers Hungarian students from Hungary and neighbouring countries the opportunity to gain experience abroad. The aim of the Makovecz program is to create a system of mutual student mobility between Hungarian-language higher education institutions in Hungary and abroad.

The University of Szeged assists the integration of its newly admitted international students at the Orientation week between the 3rd and the 5th of February. The program was opened by Dr. Tamás Bene, Director for International and Public Relations of the University of Szeged, who greeted the students and welcomed them to the SZTE. “The Erasmus exchange program is a great opportunity for students to make new friends along with their studies and to take part in a cultural adventure. Szeged is a big campus, since most of the university buildings are located downtown and in the city centre, and therefore there is great university community life in Szeged and at the University of Szeged”.Said Dr. Tamás Bene.

The University of Szeged is already affiliated with 540 Erasmus + partner institutions, so students of the University of Szeged can choose from a wide range of courses offered by foreign institutions. The purpose of the Erasmus program is to enable acquiring educational, linguistic and cultural experiences at another foreign higher education institution participating in the program.
