SZTE Remains One of the Best Universities in Hungary on the UK Top List

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the UK-based international ranking agency has published its latest international rankings for higher education institutions in emerging European and Central Asian countries. The University of Szeged was ranked 29th in this year's ranking and remains one of the best universities in the country.

On 15 December 2021, the British QS published its latest EECA (East Europe & Central Asia) ranking, in which the University of Szeged was ranked 29th. As a result, our institution has once again become one of the best universities among the 16 Hungarian higher education institutions surveyed, with four of them making it into the top 50, as in 2020.


Compared to last year, 450 higher education institutions from the emerging Eastern European and Central Asian region are on the QS list, meaning fifty more than last year.SZTE is in the top 6.4 percent of the ranked institutions with this year's ranking. Its position in the ranking has improved in several areas, such as academic recognition and the international scope of research collaborations. Its strongest indicator is its visibility on the internet, where it is ranked in the top 20 in the region, at 16th place.


The ranking continues to be based on ten criteria: 30 percent of the weighting is based on the Academic Reputation of the institution, 20 percent on Employer Reputation, 10 percent on faculty/student ratio, 5 percent on the number of staff with a PhD, 5 percent citations per paper, 10 percent on papers per faculty and 10 percent on the institution's international research network. The proportion of international faculty and international students was weighted at 2.5-2.5 percent, and the web impact (visibility) of the institution on the Internet was weighted at 5 percent.
